Dr Gill Barrett

Principal of The Loddon School

Dr Gill Barrett Principal of The Loddon School a 52-week residential special school in North Hampshire. A school described as ‘school without classrooms’ offering children and young people with severe autism, complex learning needs and who are non-verbal education 364 days per year!

I am member of the executive team of SWALSS (South & southwest Association of Leaders of Special Schools), a member of the Leaders council of Great Britain, and a school improvement partner. With twenty plus years in school leadership in both mainstream and special education I am delighted to be able to share again with you at your conference. My claim to fame is that I have worked in the same senior leadership team as Perry Knight and shared many a breaktime duty together!

Why do some students have EHCPs? How are they gained? What do I do with an EHCP as a classroom teacher? And a chance to explore the ‘hidden world’ of a 52-week residential school.
