Being a headteacher is no longer an attractive proposition, a TES survey found.

A Times Educational Supplement (TES) survey of 9,000 respondents found that the percentage of deputy and assistant headteachers who wanted to be headteachers has dropped from 55% in 2018 to 37% in 2026. So 18% drop in 8 years which is quite staggering.

The survey explained that "Squeezed budgets, a leadership-focused new Ofsted framework and shifting school structures, according to leaders who spoke to TES"

ICT with Mr T on FaceBook says that after 20 years of teaching, looking at what Headteachers have to cope with in 2026, asks himself, "Why would I do that to myself?"
